Lola Digital Interview
Jan 8, 2025
Name Lola
What is your profession? Im a singer/songwriter based out of Philadelphia.
How did you get into the field that you are in today? Honestly, I could always sing but music found me. I went through some tough times and it just so happened I was renting a room with someone who wanted to rap. They heard me cleaning the crib one day and told me to come to the studio. After that day I loved it so much, I never stopped. My music & business partner, Tai Valentine, before everything, saw me post my first song online and he reached out and everything else is history. We have worked side by side for four years, at times collaborating with other amazing musicians like Don Michael Jr., to really grow our sound. I love my team, without them this wouldn’t be possible.
What do you love most about your profession? The thing I love most about my profession is that I get to be myself unapologetically. For the first time in my life I really belong somewhere and that’s music. Music gives me the ability to turn my life into beautiful stories, as well as flex my vocal talents. I love my profession because I get to be who I really am.
Tell us more about what you do? So in a nutshell, I write music for myself and other artists. I have worked with celebrities songwriting and singing, my ability to compose good music makes this job so enjoyable.
When did you discover that you had a passion for this field? I always loved to sing but growing up that was never seen as a legitimate dream. Everyone around me didn’t believe in the slightest that I had what I took to do this for my life. Funny thing is, when something is meant for you, no man can take that from you. Music was always my passion, my happiness, and my biggest joy. It lives in me, and the fact that I get to wake up everyday and make beautiful music, is more than I could ever imagine.
Who in your field do you look up... So, when it comes to artists I look up to, there are just so many. I am a HUGE Kendrick fan, Ima sucker for all the RNB girlies, SZA, Summer Walker, Ari Lennox. My heart is with older artists, the ones I grew up on, Lauryn Hill, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Patti Labelle. I look up to any artist that can really make the listener feel something, and so I gravitate towards that so I can achieve those same things. I want my listeners to be like “Damn, she’s talking that shit”, that’s how you really connect.
